The Challenges

July & August 2012 – Photo Scavenger Hunt

Whether your a professional or amateur photographer – or whether you only just figured out how to turn your camera on – you’re going to have fun taking pictures around your neighbourhood and the city for this challenge!

From July 1 to August 19 take pictures of any or all of the items in the Photo Scavenger Hunt List and upload them to the ECC photostream on Flickr.  Make sure to name them as the item on the list they represent and tag them “ECC2012″ and the name of your community league (e.g., “Glenora”, “Ritchie”, etc.)

Full instructions including the Scavenger Hunt list are here. Judging will take place the week of August 20. Points earned during this challenge, combined with points earned during the previous two challenges will be counted up and the community league with the most overall points will get $4500 for their community league to go towards a community project! Didn’t participate in the first two challenges? No worries! No community league is far enough ahead in points that they can’t be beat!

June 2012 – Pedal-Powered Smoothies

Thirsty? Hop on a bike and pedal your own smoothie!

On June 16 from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM, you’re invited to make your own bicycle-powered smoothie during the 104 Street Farmers’ Market! Located in the pocket park just north of Jasper Avenue along 104th Street, this event will be celebrating Edmonton’s Bike Month. Participants will get points towards the Edmonton Community Challenge by pedal-powering a blender to make their own smoothie. This event is presented in collaboration with Bikeology, Edmonton on the Edge, Elm Cafe, the Organic Box, and People-Powered Parties.

Don’t miss Bikeology’s Festival Day! On the same day, there will be a pedal-powered concert from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Beaver Hill’s Park.

What is CityChase?

Part Obstacle Course.  Part Scanvanger Hunt.

The Mitsubishi City Chase Powered by GoodLife Fitness is a unique urban adventure that requires participants to exhibit teamwork, resourcefulness, determination and the ability to make decisions on the fly as they search for ChasePoints scattered in unknown locations throughout the city. ChasePoints are designed to test teams with a variety of physical, intellectual, adventurous and humorous challenges.

To conquer this 4-6 hour urban event, 2-person teams will run, walk and use public transit to navigate their way throughout the city, while calling family and friends for help, accessing the Internet, and even employing assistance of total strangers. The first team to complete the required ChasePoints and cross the finish line WINS.

What on earth is a ChasePoint?

Each City Chase event is comprised of roughly 12-15 ChasePoint Challenges. Participating teams must complete a minimum of 10 ChasePoints before crossing the finish line in order to be officially ranked. During an event teams will face a variety of physical, mental, and otherwise adventurous challenges. Because there is no pre-set route, teams must strategize to determine which ChasePoints they will complete, and in what order.

To maintain the integrity of the event, ChasePoints for each race are kept secret until the event begins.
